| Anglo-Saxon clergyman, born in Northumberland, NE England, UK. A pupil of St Aidan in Lindisfarne, he spent part of his youth in Ireland, became Abbot of Lastingham (664), and Bishop of York (666). Doubt having been cast on the validity of his consecration, he withdrew in 669, but was immediately made Bishop of Mercia, fixing the see at Lichfield. Feast day 2 March. |
