| Scholar and historian, born in Brivio, Lombardy, N Italy. A deputy of the Italian parliament (1861–7), he was at first in favour of Romanticism but then moved to anti-liberal clericalism. He founded Lombardy's historical archives, wrote a historical novel Margherita Pusterla (1838), as well as La Lombardia nel sec. XVII (1832) and Gli eretici d'Italia (1865–6). |
