| Poet, playwright, and novelist, born in Bordeaux, SW France. In Paris he established La Revue fantaisiste (1861) for the later works of Théophile Gautier (whose daughter he married) and Baudelaire. Famous for his association with the Parnassians, he edited Le Parnasse contemporain and wrote La Légende du Parnasse contemporain. His works include poetry, Poésies (1892) and Poésies nouvelles (1893), plays such as Les Mères Ennemies (1882), novels, and his Rapport sur le mouvement poétique Français de 1867–1900 (1902). |
