| Wife of Charles II of England, born in Vila Viçosa, E Portugal, the daughter of King John IV of Portugal. She was married to Charles in 1662 as part of an alliance between England and Portugal, but failed to produce an heir. She helped to convert him to Catholicism just before his death, after which she returned to Portugal (1692). |
