| Sixth wife of Henry VIII, the daughter of Sir Thomas Parr of Kendal. She first married Edward Borough, then Lord Latimer, and in 1543 became Queen of England by marrying Henry VIII. A learned, tolerant, and tactful woman, she persuaded Henry to restore the succession to his daughters, Mary I and Elizabeth, and showed her stepchildren much kindness. Very soon after Henry's death (1547) she married a former suitor, Lord Thomas Seymour of Sudeley, but died in childbirth the following year. |
