| Queen of Cyprus, born in Venice, Veneto, NE Italy. She was the wife of Giacomo II dei Lusignano, King of Cyprus. When he died (1473), she kept the crown in spite of various attempts by the Venetians to oust her. She was deposed by Venice, who annexed Cyprus in 1489, and was made ruler of Asolo. There she created a cultured and sophisticated court, described by Bembo in Gli Asolani. |
