| Architect, born in Zanesville, Ohio, USA. He studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He designed the first tower skyscraper, the 60-storey Woolworth Building in New York City (1912), at that time the tallest building in the world. He also designed the US Customs House in New York City (1907), the Supreme Court Building in Washington, DC (1935), and the campuses of the universities of Minnesota (Minneapolis) and Texas (Austin). |
