| biography:
| Comedy entertainer, born in Acocks Green, Birmingham, West Midlands, UK. After leaving school he had a variety of jobs before starting his own folk club in Solihull, where he sang, played the guitar, and developed a conversational comedy routine based on his observations of everyday life. By the mid-1970s his popularity had spread, and he had a hit record with ‘Funky Moped’ (1975). Successful albums followed, and in 1978 he starred in his own television show An Audience with Jasper Carrott. Later comedy series include Carrott's Lib (1982–3), Carrott Confidential (1987–9), Canned Carrott (1990–1), and The Detectives (1992–4), in which he co-starred with Robert Powell. He has toured for many years with his one-man show, and in 2002 took on a more serious acting role in the TV sit-com All About Me. |
