| biography:
| Renaissance painter, born in Correggio, N Italy. In 1518 he began his great series of mythological frescoes for the convent of San Paolo at Parma, and between 1521 and 1524 was engaged upon ‘The Ascension’ in the cupola of San Giovanni. The decoration of the cathedral of Parma was commissioned in 1522. He also painted many easel pictures on religious themes, such as ‘The Adoration of the Shepherds’, known as ‘The Night’ (c.1530, Dresden). He returned to Correggio in 1530. |
