| A family of painters, born in Bologna, N Italy. The most famous was Annibale Carracci (1560–1609), whose style was much influenced by Correggio and Raphael. With his brother, Agostino Carracci (1557–1602), he painted the gallery of the Farnese Palace, Rome. Together with their cousin, Ludovico Carracci (1555–1619), they founded an influential academy of painting in Bologna (1582). |
