| Architectural historian, born in New York City, New York, USA. She studied at Smith College (1957 BA) and at New York University (1960 MA; 1965 PhD), where she taught from 1965. Initially specializing in the Renaissance, her interest broadened to the modern period and she became a leading expert on 20th-c architecture. Her books include Rockefeller Center (1978), Synagogues of Europe (1985), and Gordon Bunshaft of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (1988). She was president of the Society of Architectural Historians (1984–6). |
