| biography:
| The daughter of Prince Hermann of Wied Neuwied, who married King (then Prince) Carol I of Romania in 1869. Her only child, a daughter, died in 1874, and out of her sorrow arose her literary activity. Two poems, written in German and printed privately at Leipzig in 1880 under the name ‘Carmen Sylva’, were followed by Stürme (1881), Leidens Erdengang (1882, trans Pilgrim Sorrow), and several other works. |
