| biography:
| Physician and microbiologist, born in Oliveira, SE Brazil. He studied at the Medical School of Rio de Janeiro, where he was introduced to the concepts and techniques of bacteriology and scientific medicine. He joined the Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, working on malaria prevention. During one of his field missions, he first described a disease caused by a trypanosome, since named after him (Chagas' disease). |
