| Historian, born in Camarga, Mexico. He emigrated to the USA at age 10, and studied at the University of Texas where he became (from 1927) Latin-American librarian and then history professor. He wrote widely on Latin-American history and translated the first known play written in the Americas (1935), by a Spanish priest and friend of the explorer Hernando Cortez. |
