| Poet and playwright, born in Milan, Lombardy, N Italy. A lecturer in Greek and Latin, he wrote melodramas, and the collection of poems Rime varie (1700). He is best known for the plays Il barone di Birbanza (1696), I consigli di Meneghino (1697), and Il falso filosofo (1698) where his use of Milanese dialect helps paint a realistic picture of popular life. He also wrote Rime milanesi (1701) in dialect. |
