| Painter, born in Camerano, EC Italy. He studied in Rome, and his first work attracted many commissions for altarpieces, including ‘The Virgin with SS Charles and Ignatius’ (c.1685, S Maria in Vallicella, Rome). A leader of the 17th-c Baroque school, he also painted many notable canvasses and frescoes in Rome, and became a noted portraitist. |
