| King of Etruria (1803–7), Duke of Lucca (1815–47), and Duke of Parma-Piacenza (1847–9), born in Parma, Emilia-Romagna, N Italy. The son of Ludovico II of Borbone-Parma, he had little interest in politics, and under pressure from the liberals granted a constitution (1848), and abdicated in favour of his son in 1849. |
