| Painter of the Venetian school, born in Venice, NE Italy. Trained probably by the Vivarini family in Venice, where he was imprisoned for adultery, he spent most of his time working elsewhere in the Marches of Italy. His style is a highly individual combination of old-fashioned International Gothic opulence with the new Renaissance passion for setting figures in architectural frameworks and against landscapes. |
