| Italian patriot and jurist, born in Rome, Italy. He played an important role in establishing the Roman Republic in 1849, advocating a moderate policy at first but becoming increasingly more radical. He was one of the triumvirs, the other two being Giuseppe Mazzini and Aurelio Saffi, and helped formulate the republic's constitution. |
