| biography:
| Writer, born in Leipzig, EC Germany. He wrote his first play at 15, before studying philosophy, psychology, history, and literature. In 1908 he founded the periodical Hyperion together with Franz Blei. He was forbidden to publish in 1933, some of his work having been banned as a danger to public morals in 1918. A significant Expressionist playwright, his biting satire was aimed at the bourgeoisie whose moral code he caricatured relentlessly in his plays. The four comedies in the series Aus dem bürgerlichem Heldenleben (1911–14) were particularly successful. His short stories and novels were less well-received. |
