| Biochemist, born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was professor at Copenhagen (1923–40), and in 1940 went to the USA where he taught at the University of Rochester (1942–5) and became a member of the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research (1945). He was also on the staff of the Polytechnic Institute, Copenhagen (1941–65). For his discovery of the coagulant agent vitamin K (1934) he shared the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine in 1943. |
