| Artist, born in Stockholm, Sweden. He studied at the Swedish Academy of Arts (1869–76), visited Paris in 1877, and was the centre of the Scandinavian artists' colony in Grez-sur-Loing (1882–4). The series of 26 watercolours entitled A Home (1894–9), won him international renown and enormous popularity in Sweden. He also produced monumental historical paintings and was an outstanding illustrator of books. |
