| Writer, born in Bad Salzmann, EC Germany, the brother of Gerhart Hauptmann. He wrote Naturalist plays dealing with contemporary social problems, such as Marianne (1894) and Waldleute (1896). Other plays, including Krieg. Ein Tedeum (1914) and Aus dem großen Krieg (1915), show Expressionistic traits. He also wrote novels and Impressionist poetry. |
