| Philosopher, born in Oranienburg, Germany. A prominent logical positivist of the Berlin school, he emigrated to the USA (1937) to escape Nazism, and was naturalized in 1944. He taught at Queens College (1940–8), Yale (1948–55), and Princeton (1955–73). In 1973 he became emeritus professor at Princeton, and from 1977 he was a professor at the University of Pittsburgh. His works include Concept Formation in Empirical Science (1952). |
