| biography:
| Physicist, born in Corvallis, Oregon, USA. He studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and at Stanford (1977 PhD) and Chicago universities, and went on to work at the National Institute of Standards and Technology at the University of Colorado. He shared the 2001 Nobel Prize for Physics for the achievement of Bose–Einstein condensation in dilute gases of alkali atoms, and for early fundamental studies of the properties of the condensates. |
