| biography:
| Musician, born in Fontenay-sous-Bois, NC France, the son of Arnold Dolmetsch. He became an expert in early instruments, like his father, studying the violin, and playing all the instruments in the viol family. He proved to be a recorder virtuoso, for nearly 60 years working in partnership with his accompanist, Joseph Saxby (who also died in 1997), and became musical director of the Society of Recorder Players (1937–97). He took over the direction of the Haslemere Festival on his father's death in 1940, introduced workshops for children in 1948, and began an international summer school in 1970. |
