| Impresario and violinist, born in Hamburg, N Germany. He became konzertmeister there in 1863, and appeared in London as a soloist in 1866. In 1873 he founded the Carl Rosa Opera Company, giving a great impulse to opera sung in English, and also to operas by English composers. |
