| biography:
| Antipope (1168–78). Elected as successor to antipope Paschal III, in opposition to Pope Alexander III, he was supported by Holy Roman Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa until the Treaty of Anagni (1176), which ended the schism in Alexander's favour. Calixtus finally submitted to Alexander in 1178. |
