| Stage director and playwright, born in Greenock, Inverclyde, WC Scotland, UK. He became assistant director at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry (1965–7), and associate director of the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh (1971–4), where his productions included two of his own plays, Willie Rough (1972) and Benny Lynch (1974). He was an associate of the National Theatre (1975–85), where he was director of the Cottesloe Theatre (1978–80), and later became head of drama for BBC Television Scotland (1984–93). |
