| Coach of American football, born in Kingsland, Arkansas, USA. As a player with the University of Alabama football team, he won the 1935 Rose Bowl game. He started coaching in 1945 at Maryland, and from 1958 was coach at Alabama. He broke the all-time career victories record in 1981 with 315 victories (not broken until 1985), and retired with 323. At the university a hall and stadium are both named after him. |
