| biography:
| Player of American football, born in St Simon Island, Georgia, USA. An All-American halfback at Syracuse University (1956), he had nine outstanding years with the Cleveland Browns in the National League (1957–66), during which he led the league eight times in rushing. His 126 career touchdowns remained an NFL record for almost 30 years until overtaken by Jerry Rice. He was elected to the Football Hall of Fame in 1971. Later he had a successful film career in Hollywood. |
