| Philologist, born in Vallsjö, C Sweden. Professor of English at Lund for many years (1905–42), he wrote a number of works on English place-names, including The Concise Oxford Dictionary of English Place-Names (1936, 4th edn 1960). He also served as vice-president of the English Place-Name Society from 1926–61. |
