| biography:
| Player of American football, born in Rainy River, Ontario, Canada. Chosen All-American at the University of Minnesota (1929) at both tackle and fullback, he became the archetype pile-driving fullback of the 1930's with the National Football League Chicago Bears. Although never the league's rushing leader, the powerful, 235-pound runner was nearly impossible to stop without a gain. Ironically, his jump pass to ‘Red’ Grange won the 1932 championship for the Bears. |
