| biography:
| Film actress, born in Paris, France. A ballet student and model, her appearance on the cover of Elle led to her film debut in Jean Boyer's Le Trou Normand (1952, Crazy for Love). Et Dieu créa la femme (1956, And God Created Woman) established her reputation as a sex kitten. Her roles exploited an image of petulant sexuality that was reinforced by a much publicized off-camera love life. Her many screen credits include La Verité (1960, The Truth), Le Mépris (1963, Contempt), Viva Maria (1965), and Si Don Juan était une Femme (1973, If Don Juan Were a Woman). She retired from the screen in 1973 and has devoted herself to campaigning for animal rights. |
