| King of Ireland (1002–14). In 976 he became chief of Dál Cais, and after much fighting made himself King of Leinster (984). After further campaigns in all parts of the country, his rule was acknowledged over the whole of Ireland. He was killed after defeating the Vikings at Clontarf. |
