| Novelist, historian, and classicist, born in Fórnoles, Teruel, EC Spain. In 1823 he took part in the struggle against the French invaders, was captured, and taken to France. Later he taught Latin and Rhetoric in Huesca and Greek in Zaragoza, and wrote Literatura griega (1849). He founded El Eco de Aragón in Zaragoza in 1837, and edited the paper until 1842. Apart from his Historia de Aragón (1848–9), he wrote a play El testamento de Don Alfonso ‘el Batallador’, but is best remembered for his Vida de Pedro Saputo written anonymously (ed F Ynduraín, 1959). |
