| Cigarette executive, born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA. In 1930 he joined R J Reynolds Tobacco (of which his father was president), and served variously as president, chairman, and chief executive officer (1959–69). A prominent apologist for the tobacco industry, he was responsible for developing the Winston and Salem brands and diversifying the company into the food industry. |
