| Coach of American football, born in Berlin, Germany. He emigrated with his family to Milwaukee in 1881. Although a football sub in high school and the University of Wisconsin, he became a successful high-school coach. He coached the University of Illinois (1913–41) to four national championships and seven Western Conference titles, and developed many great players, including ‘Red’ Grange. |
