| Evangelist, born in Dale County, Alabama, USA. He conducted revival meetings from the age of 13, and was licensed by the Methodist Church to preach at 15. He studied at Southern University, Greensboro, SC, and began full-time evangelistic work in 1902. To further his brand of fundamentalism, in 1927 he founded Bob Jones University, which from small beginnings in Florida eventually (1947) settled in Greenville, SC, with several thousand students. |
