| Writer and story teller, born in Rungsted, E Denmark. She and her sisters were taught at home, though she spent a little time in a Swiss school when she was thirteen, and later studied for several semesters at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. In 1914 she married her cousin, Baron Bror Blixen Finecke, and went with him to Kenya. They were divorced in 1921, and in 1931 she returned to Denmark. She wrote Seven Gothic Tales (1934), in English, later translating it into Danish. Other works include her memoir, Out of Africa (1937, filmed 1985) and Last Tales (1957). |
