| biography:
| Jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader, born in Oakland, California, USA. In 1957 she married pianist Paul Bley (1932– ), and was later divorced. Her best-known work is the unique three-album jazz opera Escalator Over the Hill (1972); she has also been active in the jazz–rock fusion field. She was co-founder of the Jazz Composers' Guild and the Jazz Composers' Orchestra Association. |
