| Historian, born in Brighton, West Sussex, S England, UK. He studied at London University, where he taught throughout his life, and was professor at Queen Mary College (1951–75). He wrote several important works on British and W European diplomatic history, particularly Tudor England (1950), which (under the ‘Pelican’ imprint) launched the first academic paperback history series. |
