| Footballer, born in Chirk, Denbighshire, Wales. He joined Manchester City in 1894, moved to Manchester United in 1906, and returned to Manchester City in 1921. In 670 games, he scored 181 goals, and 10 in his 48 appearances for Wales. Considered to be one of the finest players to come from Wales, he dominated football for three decades. He also courted controversy, being accused of bribery and match-rigging, and was suspended for accepting illegal payments. He also supported the foundation of the Players Union (1907), and was instrumental in its establishment. |
