| Actress, born in Coventry, West Midlands, C England, UK. She made her London debut in Feydeau's Hotel Paradiso in 1956, then joined the National Theatre (1964) and the Royal Shakespeare Company (1971). A noted interpreter of Samuel Beckett's work, her performances include Play (1964), Mouth in Not I (1973), and Footfalls (1976). She has appeared in a wide range of other classical and modern parts, and received several awards. She has also had a varied film career, appearing in such films as Frenzy (1972), The Omen (1976), Water Babies (1978), The Krays (1990), and Jane Eyre (1996). Work for television includes the BBC drama series Born to Run (1997), and Merlin (1998). Her autobiography, Billie Whitelaw...Who He?, was published in 1995. |
