| biography:
| Painter and printmaker, born in Bourges, C France, the grand-daughter of Fragonard. The leading female exponent of Impressionism, she painted chiefly women and children. Her early work shows the influence of Corot, who was her friend and mentor, but her later style owes more to Renoir. She herself exercised an influence on Manet, whose brother Eugène she married. |
