| Neoclassical sculptor, born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He studied at Copenhagen and Rome, working in both places. His best-known pieces include ‘Christ and the Twelve Apostles’, the reliefs ‘Night and Morning’, the ‘Dying Lion’ at Lucerne, and the Cambridge statue of Byron. All the works in his possession he bequeathed, with the bulk of his fortune, to his country. |
