| Publisher and poet, born in Huizum, N Netherlands. Although he also published literary work, such as Au revoir (1934), he is mainly known for the publishing house he founded in 1940. Together with Martinus Nijhoff he founded the literary magazine Maatstaf. After his death, his publishing house lost its independence, but kept its name, and remains one of the most significant publishers in The Netherlands. |
