| Catholic theologian, philosopher, and mathematician, born in Prague, Czech Republic. He became a priest in 1804 and professor of the philosophy of religion in 1805, but was deprived of his chair in 1819 for nonconformity. He was a pioneer in giving a rigorous foundation to the theory of functions of a real variable, and investigating the mathematical concept of the infinite. |
