| biography:
| Botanist, born in Lyon, SC France. He created the botanical garden at Trianon for Louis XV, and adopted a system which has become the basis of modern natural botanical classification. His brother Antoine (1686–1758) was a physician and professor at the Jardin des Plantes, Paris. His nephew, Antoine Laurent (1748–1836), was also professor at the Jardin, and elaborated his uncle's system in Genera plantarum (1778–89). |
