| Sociologist, born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. She collaborated with her husband Luther Lee Bernard (until his death in 1951) on works including Origins of American Sociology (1943). Her own works include American Family Behavior (1942) and American Community Behavior (1949, revised). After resigning from Pennsylvania State University (1947–64), she was an independent scholar and writer of influential feminist analyses such as Women, Wives, Mothers (1975) and The Female World from a Global Perspective (1987). |
